A makeover simulation showing replacing teeth that are missing with dental bridges.
About this cosmetic dentistry makeover:
A great portion of the cosmetic disharmony displayed by this smile is due to the fact that this person is missing two upper teeth. This person's center two teeth (central incisors) are present as are their eyeteeth (cuspids) but their lateral incisors, the teeth that should occupy the space between the central incisors and cuspids, are not. Additionally, while it doesn't seem that there are any lower teeth are missing there is quite a bit of spacing between each of the front teeth.
Our suggestions for a cosmetic dentistry solution:
The awkwardness with treating this case from a standpoint of cosmetics is that teeth, especially upper front teeth, usually have a characteristic size and shape relative to each other. While dental restorations could be used to replace the missing teeth and to close the tooth gaps (diastemata), the net result would be that some of the teeth would end up looking undersized while other teeth would take on an oversized appearance.
By far the best solution (and the one we have illustrated here) would be to first reposition this person's teeth by way of orthodontic treatment (braces). Once the alignment and spacing of the teeth had been idealized then dental restorations (dental crowns and dental bridges) could be used to close the gaps (diastemata) between the teeth and to replace the missing two upper teeth.
Additional notes about our cosmetic dentistry treatment plan.
Some people might be hesitant to commit to a treatment plan that involves orthodontic work. Our next page illustrates how this same case might be approached without the use of braces.
